This policy explains what personal data STEMigo collects through stemigo.org, why we collect it, and what rights you have over it.

Who we are

STEMigo is a STEM education content site for families, operated as a sole trader based in the United Kingdom. For the purposes of UK GDPR, the data controller is the individual trading as STEMigo.

What we collect and why

We keep the list short because we keep the collection short.

Email subscribers. If you sign up to our newsletter or become a member, we store your email address and the date you subscribed. We use this to send you the newsletter and, where relevant, occasional updates about STEMigo. Legal basis: your consent, which you give by signing up. Retention: until you unsubscribe, after which your address is removed from active lists within 30 days.

Site analytics. Our website runs on Ghost, which records basic aggregated information such as post views and email open rates. This data is not combined with other sources to identify individual visitors. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in understanding which content is useful.

Server logs. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs (IP address, browser type, page requested, timestamp) for security and reliability purposes. These are retained for a short period, typically no longer than 30 days, and are not used to build profiles of visitors. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in operating a secure service.

We do not run advertising trackers. We do not sell data. We do not share email lists.

Who processes your data on our behalf

We use a small number of third-party services to run the site. Each is a data processor under UK GDPR:

  • Ghost (our content management and email platform)
  • Our hosting and DNS providers (for serving the website)
  • Our email delivery provider (for sending the newsletter, via Ghost)

Each of these providers has its own privacy policy and handles data under contractual data protection terms.

International transfers

Some of the processors listed above may process data outside the UK, including in the United States. Where this happens, transfers are covered by standard contractual clauses or equivalent safeguards recognised under UK GDPR.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to:

  • Ask what personal data we hold about you
  • Ask us to correct data that is wrong
  • Ask us to delete your data
  • Withdraw consent for the newsletter at any time (every email includes an unsubscribe link)
  • Object to processing based on our legitimate interests
  • Lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) if you think we have mishandled your data

To exercise any of these rights, email hello@stemigo.org. We aim to respond within 30 days.

Children

STEMigo produces content for parents and caregivers of children aged roughly 6 to 10. The site itself is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal data directly from children. If you believe a child has submitted information to us, please email hello@stemigo.org and we will remove it.

Cookies

The site uses only the cookies strictly necessary to operate (for example, to keep you logged in if you are a member). We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top and, where the change is significant, notify subscribers by email.
